Scars Of The Past

Writer: Teddy MacheraTeddy Machera

With the issue of climate change becoming ever so important, I decided to write a poem about it. Along with publishing the poem here, I also submitted it to Ice Lolly Review's "Campaign Contest."

The world has not always been this way

For there was once a time when the trees would sway

The peaks of mountains covered with snow

The fireflies once released their luminous glow

Cicadas chorused through the long summer days

Fish of all colors abundantly filled the glistening bays

What once was the present

Has become the past

A bittersweet memory in our minds

A reality that simply could not last

Trees struggle to breathe the unforgiving air

The peaks of mountains have turned completely bare

Animals we once knew so well

Left to die with little to no care

This wound will continue to bleed

So let it become a scar

For scar is better than death

Of a reality that is becoming less and less far

Let the world live another day

For the world does not have to become this way
